Safety & standards
Last updated: 27 August 2026. How WhatsOutsyde keeps experiences safe and trustworthy.
For travellers
Every experience carries some risk. Before you take part, read the operator's safety information, follow all briefings, and don't participate if you're impaired by alcohol or drugs or lack any required insurance. Some activities require a signed waiver on arrival. A Verified badge means WhatsOutsyde has done a basic check of the operator, guide, driver or venue — it is not a guarantee of quality or safety, so always use your own judgement.
What we require of operators & guides
• Comply with all Jamaican laws and hold every licence, permit and insurance their activity requires.
• Clearly communicate risks and, where relevant, collect a signed waiver before the activity.
• Ensure staff have the training and certifications their roles need — driving, lifesaving, first aid.
• Meet local health, fire-safety and crowd-control standards at any venue.
• Provide accurate suitability details: minimum age, fitness level, and inherent risks.
Vehicles & water activities
Transport must have valid insurance, maintenance records and working safety equipment, and must never be operated under the influence. Water-based experiences (rafting, catamaran, snorkelling, boat tours) must carry insurance, adequate lifejackets and distress signals, radio and GPS, and crew with a valid lifesaving certification — and must brief every participant before departure.
Cancellation & refunds
• Flexible — full refund from the operator if cancelled at least 24 hours before the start time.
• Standard — full refund from the operator if cancelled at least 72 hours before the start time.
• Strict — non-refundable once the operator has confirmed, except where Jamaican consumer law says otherwise.
Each listing shows its own policy. WhatsOutsyde does not take a card for experiences, so refunds are paid by the operator, not through the app. Where an operator cancels because of events beyond their control — severe weather, natural disasters, strikes or government action (force majeure) — the operator should refund you in full or rebook. WhatsOutsyde is not a party to that payment.
What isn't allowed
Anything that endangers travellers, animals, communities or staff; captive-wild-animal or demeaning animal performances; activities built around gambling, drug use, tip-only pricing, or donations/charity; and any illegal, offensive or misleading content. Experiences touching sensitive contexts are reviewed before going live and must be respectful and factual.
Reporting a concern
If something isn't right — a safety issue, a misleading listing, or an operator asking you to pay off-platform — use Report on the place or Contact WhatsOutsyde from the map logo. Reports go to us, not to the operator. We review every report and may suspend or remove listings and accounts.
